GWG presents "Remembering Don Adam's Day"

Dear GWG,

    

I proclaim “Remembering Don Adam’s Day” a fine example of what a memorial dedicated to one’s fellows should be.  From the beginning images of the video and the sounding of the chime three times in his memory, to the last speaker and closing reading of Don’s writing, we were reminded of how this man  touched each of our lives.

    

Those who spoke, those who read and those who listened were equally affected.  Don’s talent, his humor and honesty as well as his ability to express thoughts in written form will be with us always.  He encouraged and mentored us, made us laugh and brought us joy.  His person will be greatly missed, but he lives forever in our hearts.

GWG Meeting Notes ~ 5/03/16

     Color GWG writers “ret hot” today, as our circle grew to ten members with seven reading. A pleasant blend of prose and poetry kept attendees engrossed. From snakes to the supernatural, seasonal change to successful political campaigns, gardening, longings for a “utopian place,” and a little pickin’ and grinin’ thrown in, our time together seemed to fly.

     Those present included Elizabeth Howells, Linda Wagner, Maureen Young, Jeanne Herrero, Pete Muzyka, Davis Temple, Kathy Wright, Jackie Askew, Jenny Bates, and Helen vonRichthofen—a grand group!

Special Note:  Don’t forget next Tuesday, May 10, 2016, is “Remembering Don Adams Day.” We will be meeting at our regular place at the usual time of 1:00. Currently, we have 20 people who’ve said they’re planning to attend, with 13 speaking or reading. This will be a day to pay our respects and recognize our friend, Don, for what he meant to all of us.

Upcoming Plans:

• Plans were discussed with regard to posthumously compiling a chapbook of Don’s poems later this fall.  Liz has agreed to compile the book in similar fashion to “Gay’s Greatest Hits,” produced in 2014.  Submissions of Don’s poetry you would like to recommend can be made once the work has actually begun.  You will be notified at that time.
• Watch for an email from Pete Muzyka regarding a proposed, new and expanded edition of the “Abandoned Rural America” book. YEA!!!!!  If you have not been a contributor, be thinking about becoming one.
• Leah Dukes, President of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, has suggested what could be a fun project for GWG.  Leah says she has a cabinet full of stories about Greene County’s history, and she thinks they could use some perking up.   She feels these stories might contain the makings for a nice, hard cover book, if we’re interested in the challenge.  We have invited her to pick a date to come to one of our meetings to discuss the possibilities.  More on this later.

GWG Members in the spotlight

You may not be aware of this latest "Inkspot" of GWG members Dr. Barry Darugar and Jeanne Herrero, (AKA Jeanne Arlette)

Barry and his beautiful wife Debbie are on the cover of the May 2016 edition of Inside the Gates a monthly social publication for the residents of Reynolds Lake Oconee.  Their story, Meet the Darugar Family, along with pictures of their beautiful home and grounds are part, of a featured article on pages 28-29.

Jeanne Arlette, AKA Jeanne Herrero, also has an article in this edition of Inside the Gates on page 18-19.  This article with pictures highlights a description of Jeanne's new novel, The Sands are Changing and includes a biography of the author.
